The WiFi Password Problem
Sharing your WiFi password usually means one of these awkward scenarios: reading out a 20-character random string letter by letter, scribbling it on a napkin, or handing over your phone. A WiFi QR code eliminates all of this — guests just scan and connect.
The WiFi QR Code Format
The text you need to encode follows this format:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:Password;;
Field breakdown:
- T: Security type —
WPA(most common),WEP(older), ornopass(open network) - S: Your network name (SSID) — exactly as it appears
- P: Your WiFi password
Step-by-Step Example
Say your network is named HomeNetwork with password sunshine2026:
- Open the QR Code Generator
- Paste this into the content box:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:HomeNetwork;P:sunshine2026;; - Choose size 256px and error correction H (for printed materials)
- Click Generate → Download PNG
- Print and place where guests can scan it
Handling Special Characters
If your password or network name contains special characters, escape them with a backslash:
"→\";→\;,→\,\→\\
Example: Password pass"word becomes pass\"word in the format.
For Hidden Networks
If your network doesn’t broadcast its SSID, add H:true:
WIFI:T:WPA;S:HiddenNet;P:password;H:true;;
Your Password Stays Private
